You will also need to write a detailed description of how you plan to care for the puppies in your facility. Once approved by Animal Care & Control, your license will be valid for one year from the date it was issued. 
  • Health Regulations – In addition to obtaining a license from Animal Care & Control, all puppies sold in Fort Worth must meet state health standards set by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). All puppies sold in Texas must have been vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days prior to sale and must also come with documentation showing that they have been checked by a veterinarian within 14 days prior to sale. The TDA also requires all pet dealers to provide buyers with written instructions on proper puppy care and nutrition as well as contact information for the seller should any questions or concerns arise after purchase.  
  • Breeder Regulations – Finally, if you are planning on breeding puppies yourself rather than purchasing them from another breeder or broker, then you must obtain a Breeder License from Animal Care & Control. In order to get this license, you will need proof of vaccinations for both parents of any litter being bred as well as proof that those parents have been spayed/neutered if they are over six months old. You will also need to provide records showing that any litters produced were given medical examinations by veterinarians within 14 days prior to sale and were vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days before the sale. Once approved by Animal Care & Control, your breeder license will be valid for one year from the date it was issued unless suspended or revoked due to violations of state or local laws or regulations pertaining to animal cruelty or neglect.
